Tainionvirta Business Group Project

Responsible Tourism Through Cooperation

The Tainionvirta Business Group is a network of ten tourism companies from Hartola and Sysmä working together to develop the region’s tourism industry to be more sustainable, competitive, and attractive. These entrepreneurs are committed to improving responsible tourism services, adopting digital solutions, and enhancing energy efficiency in response to increasing demand from both domestic and international travelers.

Project Goals

The main objectives of the project are to create responsible tourism products, streamline business operations through digitalization, and adopt environmentally friendly practices. All group members will obtain an environmental certificate and the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label granted by Visit Finland. Certifications are audited by an independent evaluator.

Responsibility as a Competitive Advantage

Currently, the Lahti Region has 11 STF-labeled companies. Once the project is complete, the Tainionvirta Business Group will double this number. Prioritizing sustainability is essential for companies as it strengthens their competitiveness, meets the rising expectations of travelers, and ensures long-term economic and environmental viability.

Pioneering Responsible Tourism

The goal is to become a leader in responsible and regenerative tourism in the Päijät-Häme region. This development also benefits locals and travelers alike. New services—such as responsible nature activities, higher-quality accommodations, and more comprehensive tourism offerings—will provide a wider range of choices and memorable experiences. Customers will benefit from enhanced services like improved digital booking systems and year-round events. Responsibility will also be evident in a cleaner environment, more enjoyable local tourism, and better employment opportunities in the region.

Regional Impact

The joint development effort of Tainionvirta’s businesses aims to strengthen the vitality of the region, increase tourist flows, and improve the range of services for locals, summer residents, and visitors. Together, we’re creating a model area for responsible tourism where natural beauty, high-quality services, and sustainable development go hand in hand. The group's achievements have already drawn broad interest and have been showcased at several entrepreneurial events across Häme.
